Ans. Cholesterol is both our friend and enemy at normal levels, it is an essential need for the body's normal functioning, but if levels in the blood gets too high, then it becomes a silent danger which becomes a cause of Heart Attack and also increases Obesity and High Blood Pressure. Cholesterol travels through your blood in small packages called lipoproteins These packages are made of fat on the inside and proteins on the outside There are two types of lipoproteins which carry’s cholesterol throughout your body: low-density lipoproteins (Bad Cholesterol) and high-density lipoproteins (Good Cholesterol). We should have both lipoproteins in the body to maintain the healthy body.
Q. what is the Difference between HDL and LDL? AND how does it affect my body?
Ans. High blood cholesterol (HDL) is a condition in which you have too much cholesterol in your blood. By itself, the condition usually has no signs or symptoms. However, many people don’t know that their cholesterol levels are too high. The higher the level of LDL cholesterol in your blood, the GREATER your chance is of getting heart disease. The higher the level of HDL cholesterol in your blood, the LOWER your chance is of getting heart disease.
Note: Triglycerides, It is another type of fat, which is carried in the blood by LDL. Excess calories, alcohol, or sugar in your body are converted into triglycerides and stored in fat cells throughout your body.
Q. What is the Functions of Cholesterol?
Ans. It helps maintain the structure of cells and vessels, improving overall health and function in the body.- Cholesterol is a precursor to important sex hormones like testosterone, estrogen, androgen and progesterone. It is also a precursor to corticosteroids, hormones whose primary function is to protect the body against stress and disease. This includes the crucial hormones, cortisol and DHEA.- Cholesterol also aids in the manufacture of bile and is also important for the metabolism of fat soluble vitamins, including vitamins A, D, E and K. Further cholesterol has an important role for the brain synapses as well as in the immune system, including protecting against cancer.
Q. So, what can you do if you have high cholesterol?
Ans. First you should go to your Physician to check the level of Cholesterol. If the Cholesterol is high then you should daily go for a walk and do some special Exercise like..
- Taking a brisk daily walk during your lunch hour
- Riding your bike to work
- Swimming laps Playing a favourite sport
